Dear Parents, June 15, 2010

We have just begun an exciting project. Our classrooms have been transformed into publishing houses, and over the next three weeks, each child will write and illustrate an original book. We have a few details that need your attention, please.

FIRST, we hope to post the following documents on our class web page for your convenience. Go to www.northsuburbansummeracademy.com and follow the links to our page.

1--WELCOME LETTER, listing supplies needed and daily routines here at Summer Academy. We want to apologize again for any confusion that resulted from the failure of our welcome letter to be included in your children's pre-Summer Academy mailings. Thanks for your patience with this. We sent paper copies of this letter home with the children today as well.

2--A REVISED CLASS SCHEDULE, highlighting class happenings and homework deadlines. As we work through the writing process, your child will be developing the manuscript and illustrations for their forthcoming book. Please note that we hope to begin the rough drafts of our stories in class on Wednesday. In the event that we progress as planned, the children will need time and space at home on Wednesday evening where they can finish them. I hope to read and be able to comment on the children's stories on Thursday night. Then, they will be looking for your feedback and assistance with final revisions during the weekend sometime. On Monday of the second week, we will be writing our second drafts in preparation for editing at home on Monday evening. Check our web page periodically for more specifics. We'll try to keep you abreast of the latest developments through notes sent home as well.

SECOND, regarding the field trip on Thursday, 6/17, please note the following:
1--We are in need of a few chaperones. Please contact us, if you are interested.
We will leave SA at 8:30 and return by noon.

2--Columbia Heights is offering sack lunches at no charge to you on both extended days. Let us know if you would like them to provide lunch for your child on both Thursdays. Morning snacks will still be needed.

FINALLY, we hope you become as excited about this project as we are and look forward to a new edition for your bookshelf. We would like to personally invite you to attend our evening Open House on Wednesday, June 30th, to help us celebrate the unveiling of the children's books.

Best Regards,
Loralyn Eckstrom & Joy Morrey
